Class Description:

The body heals by change whether it is spiritual, physical, or emotional. This change is impacted by an external influence which for our purpose is physical. In this workshop, we will be utilizing cool and warm stones to initiate a change in the body's healing process. We do not want to overwhelm our internal systems; we want to challenge our norms and encourage the body's recovery. "It is not about being cold it is about receiving cooler or warm temperatures." If your treatment room is not cool your client should not get cold. When working with stones no matter the temperature your body mechanics should be the same. The pressure and pace of the stone will change and will be adjusted to your client's tolerance for both temperature and pressure.

We are all aware of the importance of body mechanics, but this is amplified by using stones as an extension of your hands. This workshop will emphasize how to cradle the stone in your hand without squeezing it. If you try to overpower a stone, it will win. You will also find the shape and size of a stone will be important depending on the technique you are going to apply.

Ridge Technical College will be supplying:

Basalt stones, Heaters and massage tables.

It is recommended if you have stones you like working with bring them along with a cooler for the application of cool temperatures.

In addition, you will need:

-        A bowl for water to cool down stones from the heater

-        Alcohol to sanitize stones (or an equivalent)

-         A tool to remove the hot stones from the heater (could be rubber gloves / I use a wooded spoon)
